We can happily report that there are some really good cheap graphics card deals around today, and it feels good to be able to type that. The latest and greatest Nvidia and AMD GPUs are still prohibitively expensive, but genuinely powerful 1080p graphics cards are available at the sub-$250 mark. And Intel is definitely in the fray at the budget end of the market now that its drivers are in a better state.

However, the most exciting thing about the latest GPUs is that they're mostly available for MSRP or below, bar only the RTX 4090. Even the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super are often found for a fair price, and they're as new as it gets. It will be a while before we see any serious deals on Super GPUs, but you should expect to see some on the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 as they're no longer in production.

AMD has also dropped the MSRP for its RX 7900 XT, which is now down to $749. Avoid anywhere trying to sell one for more than that.

There are savings on the last-gen graphics cards, but they're a tough sell. Both AMD and Nvidia have more affordable versions of their RDNA 3 and Ada Lovelace architectures and that makes some of those expensive old cards even harder to recommend, unless the deal is a steal.

Gigabyte RX 6600 | 8GB GDDR6 | 1,792 shaders | 2,491MHz | $199.99 at Walmart
The RX 6600 is a quality 1080p GPU now that its price properly reflects its status. At the sub-$200 point, we're getting a budget graphics card that delivers high frame rates in the latest games at top 1080p graphics presets. PC gaming doesn't have to cost a fortune, you know?

RX 6600 price check:  Newegg $199.99 |  Amazon $189.99 | Best Buy $229.99

ASRock Challenge Arc A750 | 8GB GDDR6 | 3,584 shaders | 2,400MHz boost| $199.99 at Newegg
The Intel discrete graphics cards have only gotten more relevant since their inauspicious launch. With successive driver releases increasing performance and now a significant price drop, the A750 is now one of the most tempting budget GPUs around. It's a bit more power hungry than AMD's RX 6600 but is a super capable 1080p card knocking both RTX 3050 and RTX 3060 out of the value GPU stakes.

Arc A750 price check: Walmart $232.57 | Amazon $259.99

XFX Speedster SWFT210 RX 6650 XT| 8GB GDDR6 | 2,048 shaders | 2,635MHz boost | $239.99 $219.99 at Newegg (save $10)

With stock of the RX 6600 XT starting to dwindle it seems like the faster RX 6650 XT is taking its place as one of the best budget GPUs around. It's an 8GB GPU, with effectively the same core specs as the RX 6600 XT, but with a little higher clock speed boost.

RX 6650 XT price check: Walmart $229.99 | Best Buy $229.99 | Amazon $220.54

XFX RX 7600 | 8GB GDDR6 | 2,048 shaders | 2,755MHz | $259.99 at Newegg
As the budget baby of the RDNA 3 family, the RX 7600 faces a lot of competition. Not just from Intel and Nvidia, but from AMD's previous generation of cards too. At this price, though, its quite a bit cheaper than the RX 6700 XT and in some games, it performs nearly as well. Not the most exciting of graphics cards, though.

MSI RTX 4060 | 8GB GDDR6 | 3,072 shaders | 2,490MHz | $295 at Walmart
If you must have Ada Lovelace, Nvidia's latest gaming architecture, the cheapest way in is this RTX 4060. Faster than the RTX 3060 but the price suggests it should have been better. You do get the full DLSS 3.5 suite, though, and it's pretty decent at encoding video for streaming.

XFX Speedster SWFT309 Radeon RX 6700 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 2,560 shaders | 2,581MHz boost | $409.99 $309.99 at Best Buy (save $100)

The RX 6700 XT is still a great way to score a high amount of VRAM on a more modest budget. This version comes with a solid, triple-fan cooler and a decent price tag, though you can sometimes score an RX 6750 XT for a similar price tag, and that card is generally faster.

RX 6700 XT price check: Walmart $389.48 | Amazon $349.99 | Newegg $469.99

XFX Speedster QICK319 Radeon RX 6750 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 2,560 shaders | 2,600MHz boost | $399.99 $329.99 at Amazon (save $70)

XFX Speedster QICK319 Radeon RX 6750 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 2,560 shaders | 2,600MHz boost | $399.99 $329.99 at Amazon (save $70)
Coming in close to the price of the plain ol' RX 6700 XT, this version comes with higher core and memory clocks. That generally makes for higher frame rates in games, though that does depend on what you're playing. If you don't mind spending a little bit extra, it's worth a look, especially for all that speedy VRAM.

Price check: Newegg $329.99

XFX SPEEDSTER RX 6800 | 16GB GDDR6 | 3840 shaders | 2,190MHz boost | $374.99 at Walmart

XFX SPEEDSTER RX 6800 | 16GB GDDR6 | 3840 shaders | 2,190MHz boost | $374.99 at Walmart
This graphic card was launched over three years ago but it's still very potent, especially if you're after at ultra-high fps in 1080p shooter games. It has bags of VRAM on a wide memory bus, backed up with mountains of cache. Makes the RTX 4060 Ti and RX 7700 XT look miserly in comparison.

RX 6800 price check: Newegg $379.99 | Amazon $390.62 | Best Buy $409.99

ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 7700 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 3072 shaders | 2,584MHz boost | $419.99 $394.99 at Newegg (save $25)

ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 7700 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 3072 shaders | 2,584MHz boost | $419.99 $394.99 at Newegg (save $25)
The Radeon RX 7700 XT might lose out to its bigger brother, but if you're building a system on a budget it still makes a great mid-range card for solid 1440p gaming, as we found in our review of the Sapphire model. This one's also a nice solid triple fan design, so should run cool and quiet.

RX 7700 XT price check: Amazon $419 | Walmart $399.99 | Best Buy $419.99

Sapphire RX 7800 XT| 16GB GDDR6 | 3,840 shaders | 2,430MHz boost | $509.99 at Newegg
At this price point, the best card to get used to be the 6800 XT but now we're starting to see deals like this one, where the newer 7800 XT has the same price tag. It's only a little bit faster than the card it's replaced but you're still getting a lotta GPU for not a lotta money.

RX 7800 XT price check: Amazon $499.99 | Best Buy $499.99 | Walmart $519.99

Galax RTX 4070 | 12GB GDDR6X | 5,888 shaders | 2,490MHz boost | $549.97 at Amazon
The RTX 4070 is a popular card and can be difficult to find at discount, but it's important to remember that this price is cheaper than it was at launch. You're getting nearly RTX 3080 performance but with all those nice RTX 40 features. This Galax model uses the traditional 8-pin PCIe power connector, rather than the new 12VHPWR one, which makes it far easier to install as an upgrade.

Zotac RTX 4070 Super | 12GB GDDR6X | 7,1688 shaders | 2,475MHz boost | $589.99 at Newegg
The RTX 4070 Super has only just launched, so you won't see any discounts for a good while yet. Is it worth $50 more than the regular RTX 4070 and $100 more than the RX 7800 XT? Tricky to answer, so check out the benchmarks in our RTX 4070 Super review to see if it's the right choice for you. There's little else to choose from at this price, but at least you can get them at MSRP.

RTX 4070 Super price check:  Walmart $599.99 | Amazon $609.99 | Best Buy $599.99

Gigabyte RTX 4070 Ti | 12GB GDDR6X | 7,680 shaders | 2,640MHz boost | $739.99 $679.99 at Newegg (save $60)
The RTX 4070 Ti is no longer in production, due to the release of the RTX 4070 Ti Super, but there are still lots of them on shelves and we're starting to see some price drops. It's still a seriously powerful GPU for modern gaming.

RTX 4070 Ti price check: Newegg $918.99 | Walmart  $739.99 | Best Buy $819.99

Sapphire RX 7900 XT | 20GB GDDR6 | 5,376 shaders | 2,450MHz boost | $699.99 at Newegg

Sapphire RX 7900 XT | 20GB GDDR6 | 5,376 shaders | 2,450MHz boost | $699.99 at Newegg
Seeing a bunch of RX 7900 XTs selling for well less than the original MSRP is a welcome sight, and while they might get overshadowed by some of Nvidia's greatest, they deliver a huge amount of performance. What we like about the ASRock in particular is that it should run quieter than your average RX 7900 XT. We all could do with a little less noise from our PC.

RX 7900 XT price check: Amazon $699.99 | Best Buy $819.99 | Walmart $749.99

Zotac RTX 4070 Ti Super | 16GB GDDR6X | 8,448 shaders | 2,610MHz boost | $799.99 at Newegg
Just like the RTX 4070 Super, the RTX 4070 Ti Super is a new model, so discounts aren't to be found anywhere yet. Just think of it as an RTX 4070 Ti selling at its original MSRP, but with more VRAM and a small, but handy, performance boost. This Zotac model is as solid as they come and you really shouldn't be paying more than this price for any other version.

ASRock RX 7900 XTX | 24GB GDDR6 | 6144 shaders | 2,615MHz boost | $929.99 at Newegg
Just like with the RTX 4080, it's hard to find AMD's RX 7900 XTX discounted down below its MSRP price. But good deals can be found and we'll happily take any money knocked off the price of a high-end GPU. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is stupidly fast and XFX are a solid manufacturer with good cooling designs.

RX 7900 XTX price check: Amazon $929.99 | Walmart $949.99 | Best Buy $999.99

Zotac RTX 4080 Super | 16GB GDDR6 | 10,240 CUDA Cores | 2,550MHz boost | $999.99 at Newegg

Zotac RTX 4080 Super | 16GB GDDR6 | 10,240 CUDA Cores | 2,550MHz boost | $999.99 at Newegg
While Nvidia's replacement for the RTX 4080 is only a little bit faster, the MSRP of the RTX 4080 Super is a fair bit lower at $999. We've found just one card at that sorta price today, however. That's this Zotac, which should be a pretty cool and quiet card.

The RX 6600 is a quality 1080p GPU and great value for money, if you can score it cheap enough. You're getting a budget graphics card that delivers high frame rates in the latest games at top 1080p graphics presets. At least AMD and Intel are bringing GPU pricing down.

As the budget baby of the RDNA 3 family, the RX 7600 faces a lot of competition. Not just from Intel and Nvidia, but from AMD's previous generation of cards too. At this price, though, its almost £60 cheaper than the RX 6700 XT and in some games, it performs nearly as well. Dare I say that it's a little bit dull?

Nvidia's cheapest Ada Lovelace model rarely gets much of a discount but this one is the best offer I've seen so far. It performs around the same as the Radeon RX 7600, so what are you getting for the extra £40? The answer is DLSS 3.5 upscaling and frame generation. In some games, it's worth the additional money, especially if you're a fan of ray tracing effects. Avoid cheaper models, as they're clocked slower and have worse coolers.

AMD rules the graphics card market's mainstream and budget ends, and the RX 6700 XT is the best GPU at this price point. The RTX 3060 Ti is more expensive than the RX 6700 XT and is a little bit slower in many games. Its popularity means supply is somewhat limited so you might need to wait a bit until its back in stock.

The fact that this is an RTX 4070 retailing for below the standard Nvidia MSRP for the card is the thing to really pay attention too. This is an RTX 3080 with benefits. It's mostly quicker than the previous-gen card, and comes with the excellent DLSS 3 Frame Generation tech, too.

At launch the RX 7900 XT was far too close to the RX 7900 XTX in price, and not close enough in terms of performance. Thankfully, the pricing has dropped dramatically for this second-tier RDNA 3 card, making it a far more tantalising prospect than before.

The RTX 4070 Ti is no longer in production, due to the release of the RTX 4070 Ti Super, but there are still lots of them on shelves. It's still too soon for any big discounts but you can get one like this triple fan MSI model for well under its MSRP. It's a seriously powerful GPU but it's also pretty expensive for what it is.

Just like the RTX 4070 Super, the RTX 4070 Ti Super is a new model, and while there are no discounts yet, it's better value than the RTX 4070 Ti it replaces. The cheapest one of those is just £40 less. With more VRAM and a small but handy performance boost, the 4070 Ti Super is a decent enough successor, though you'll need to wait a while before the old Ti has dropped more in price.

AMD's mighty RX 7900 XTX is now easy to find well under its original MSRP and it's a seriously powerful graphics card. While it's not as potent in ray tracing and AI/machine learning as Nvidia's equivalent cards, it handles standard rendering extremely well and you're getting more VRAM than you could ever want.

With an MSRP of £999, the new RTX 4080 Super is clearly a better choice than the original 4080, as it's cheaper and a little bit faster. However, finding one at MSRP is a real struggle at the moment, as stocks are low. This Inno3D model is perfectly decent, if nothing spectacular, and price rather nicely. If you can call spending over £1000 on a graphics card 'nice'.

Performance comparison

We've benchmarked all the latest GPUs of this generation, and have tracked their performance against the previous generation in terms of 3DMark Time Spy Extreme scores. Where we don't have the referential numbers for an older card we have used the average index score from the UL database. These figures track alongside an aggregated 1440p frame rate score from across our suite of benchmarks.

Intel's Arc cards are not noted here, as they generally score uncharacteristically highly in 3DMark, and that gives a false sense of performance without other frame rate figures to delve into. Check out our Arc A770 review and Arc A750 review for more.

MSRP list

Here's a list of the manufacturer set retail prices (MSRP), or recommended retail price (RRP), for most the latest graphics cards. For the most part, these are the set prices for the stock or reference versions of these cards, if applicable, and not representative of overclocked or third-party graphics cards, which may well be priced higher.

He first started writing for Official PlayStation Magazine and Xbox World many decades ago, then moved onto PC Format full-time, then PC Gamer, TechRadar, and T3 among others. Now he's back, writing about the nightmarish graphics card market, CPUs with more cores than sense, gaming laptops hotter than the sun, and SSDs more capacious than a Cybertruck.
